Actually, right now it's looking rather pitiful:

That's looking alot closer to the kind of wiring I used to do!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hey, don't wait for me, I'm actually going to missouri this weekend to deliver that saturn. I'll be looking forward to hear how it goes though. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Does it run yet?

One thing I think I see that might be a future issue, did you put the intake air sensor into the base of the intake. There were many reports of hot start issues from heat soaked IAT sensors since they are reading the thermal mass of the aluminum rather that the air passing by.
There might be a work around in the newer software but this might be a heads up if you get starting issues in the future.

I would imagine that most problems result from using standard IAT sensors which amount to not much more than coolant temperature sensors.... very slow to read change... and very susceptible to hot soak issues. The IAT sensor I've used is a fast-reading, open element GM sensor, is mounted on the side of the discharge plenum.... and is in the air stream..... that's about the only place I could put it for it to function properly:

No, it doesn't run yet. I have it all together, oil pump's primed. I "thought" I calibrated the LC-1, hooked up the laptop to the ECU, turned the ignition switch on to see if I could read the sensors...... nothing.

The laptop isn't seeing the ECU because the "switched +12v" circuit is dead. I went straight to the coil+ wire where I pulled the switched 12v and got nothing. I don't yet understand it. I tested that connection a while back to make sure I could use it as a switched source and it was hot in the RUN and START position.

The weird thing is the starter will spin the engine, but nothing at the old coil wire. I need to look at the diagram a bit to figure this out - it may be only a fuse .... but I've had enough for today. Maybe tomorrow will bring some new light.

More problems....... I just spun the engine without the injectors or coil connected to see if the fuel system would pressurize. It did, and promptly sprung a leak.... at one the AN hose connection that feeds the driver side of the fuel rail.... looks like the fitting isn't sealing. That means the blower and discharge plenum has to come off....... again..... along with a whole bunch of other "stuff".

Man o' man.... if it ain't the cockroaches, it's the p*ss ants.

Is it the connection or the fitting on the hose?? man if that isn't a pain in the butt! I was sure those suckers were going to be ok!

I can't tell yet - it looks like the driver side feed fitting that goes onto the male connection at the fuel rail is leaking between the hose and the fitting.

Next time I won't be so confident.... I'll hook up the regulator and pressure test it BEFORE I put everything back together. Stuff happens when I rush things. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

After looking at the FSM, there are 3 places other than the ignition switch and associated pigtail connectors that could interrupt the switched power to the coil.

1) the 100A main fuse (good because the starter works)
2) the IGN fusible link (good on my voltmeter test)
3) connector B-71 between the fusible link and the coil

I was messing with B-71 and B-72 today to try to tuck a harness under the B-71/B-72 bundle. I could get B-72 apart, but not B-71. I pulled it a little, but never could get it to separate. I think this is where I'll find the electrical problem tomorrow.

[EDIT] B-67 is also a suspect, although I haven't been messing with that one - wherever it is - somewhere behind the passenger side headlight. [EDIT]

Here's the leaker - nasty looking thing - somehow, it pulled some of the sheath and rubber up into the inner threads and fuel was blowing out between the connector and the hose - it never had a chance:
[Linked Image]
Brendan's off the hook because that one was done before he got here. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> So, a new piece of hose was installed and all is well...... the system pressurized to 45psi, the regulator kicked in, steadied at 40psi , I removed pump power and 45 minutes later, it still shows ~20psi..... no fuel smell, no leaks. JB Weld works great as a sealant for permanent threaded fittings. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> - the leaker was to the right in the picture:

Now I'll start a search for missing 'lectrons........ <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

After spending 4 hours with a multi-meter and checking everything I could find at least twice, I was ready to believe that the coil wire had broken inside the harness. I started looking for another source of switched power and finding none, I decided to call it a day.

When I opened the door to turn off the ignition switch, I discovered the problem....... ME! I never turned the ignition switch past the ACC position to the RUN position when I was testing MS ECU/sensors or when I was checking for coil voltage!!!!!! For Heaven's sake........... how dumb is that? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cyclops.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/sleeping.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /><img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I now have coil power. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> and I assume it will power MS's "switched +12v" needs. I'm really glad I have a sense of humor or things would have gone flying through the garage. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Tomorrow, I'll put it all back together.

Frank
