I tried starting a new engine on a Camero I built for a customer way back in the late 70s. Tried three starters, a few batteries, changing cables, was damn frustrating. First time I ever saw you had to depress a clutch pedal to crank an engine.

Charlie, I'm so old and have spent so much time in boats, I instinctively think the ACC position on the key switch is ALWAYS to the left of OFF. I don't see why they ever needed to change it.... worked perfectly well the old way. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I love seeing how many people can not turn those switches off, they keep turning instead of accepting that off is in the center.

We've all done things like that Frank.... I was having a fuel issue on a boat Monday, turned out to be an empty fuel tank..... Duh.....

Not me! I love making mistakes. I get to learn something, usually...

I'm the one who forgot that the truck has to have a battery to have 12v showing anywhere.

That is a fuel supply issue, flat rate gives 3.1 Hrs. for diagnostics on that.

OK, it's back together, the LC-1 is calibrated, the laptop sees the sensors, the TPS has been calibrated and the fuel system primes for a second when the key switch is turned on.

I still need to install the spark plugs and screw the o2 sensor into the exhaust bung..... 5 minutes or so.

So, I guess it's time to fish or cut bait. Charlie, have I overlooked anything? What about ignition timing...... do I need to designate a trigger offset value or let 'er rip?

The base timing will need to be set. I have not done that distributor but the procedure is spelled out well in the MS docs. In distributor mode if you have it set for 60 deg or so it may be close enough to fire. Then use a light to find out where it is once running.
One item to look for is during the fuel pump prime, some versions have the injectors fire a prime pulse, I turn that off since it will fill the cylinders with ready to fire fuel. It might be ok once the engine is running fine but I see no value in it.

You are going to be learning now. I hope it goes well.

No start yet. I've gone through the setup info and *think* I have everything set correctly, except I don't understand the ignition offset values.

The offset is set to 0.00 (by default). There is a trigger wizard that apparently allows this number to be changed. The manual says to have the trigger offset agree with the timing light, but I can't use the timing light until I get the engine running. The manual procedure leaves a lot to be desired.

Should I set the trigger offset to.. say 15* so it would approximate initial spark lead?

Frank

Do you have a scope? Without one you can put a meter on the lead from trigger and see when it opens and closes. There should be an event 50 or 60 before Tdc. With MS2 you can select if this is rising or falling.
Essentially you need to turn the engine by hand with power on and watch for the meter to signal the trigger events. Then look at a pulley and determine about where the events are in crank rotation. This can also be done if you have the LEDs in the MS. I do not install the LEDs since they are ignition outputs in what I run so i have used a meter.
I can take a look at your MSQ if you want.

A few years ago someone posted in the sucsess area that they were running a Mitsu 6, I think with a dizzy, he might have his MSQ posted.
