The base timing will need to be set. I have not done that distributor but the procedure is spelled out well in the MS docs. In distributor mode if you have it set for 60 deg or so it may be close enough to fire. Then use a light to find out where it is once running.
One item to look for is during the fuel pump prime, some versions have the injectors fire a prime pulse, I turn that off since it will fill the cylinders with ready to fire fuel. It might be ok once the engine is running fine but I see no value in it.
