Time for an Innovative mixture guage?

No problem looking over the next MSQ.

That was the original plan - to install one if needed. It seems to me that if the tune is done correctly on the dyno, I shouldn't need one since the laptop can provide the same information..... and since I got rid of the FMU and no longer need the fuel pressure gauge, I'm considering doing away with the extra gauge pod altogether and moving the boost gauge to the position now occupied by the (useless) inclinometer.

I don't know where that'll leave a place for the knock sensor LED, but there should be a spot someplace that'll work.

Frank

I take it you do not drive trails that put you 40* to the side while 45* nose down? I do not think I will even try to take my 2nd gen down that one.

Boost guage, now that is one instrument I have little use for. In the cars I build when the boost is up I sure can not let my eyes even try to look at an instrument. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I used mine as an accelerometer. I want a real tilt gauge. anybody got a gyro platform for sale...

I hear you. I've used it to get relative readings - one reason I think the cams may not be advanced enough. I haven't pushed it hard yet, but I haven't seen more than 5 psi. I did some intake port work on the heads, but I can't attribute a loss of 2 psi to better flow.... particularly since I still have the OE exhaust on it.

I've now enabled the MS knock sensor circuit and am about to calibrate the translator and go driving.

Frank

Aircraft attitude indicators are available on ebay of decent money. You can get them with vacuum or electric power.

msq is on the way via email. I increased the spark lead ~ 4* in the 800 rpm bin and heard knocking - but the indicator didn't flash. I guess I need to play with the sensitivity a little. I've set it back to 15* at 800 don't want to adjust spark lead until I get the LED to flash.... it's too hard to hear the knock over the tires, blower and wind.

Got it, Knock sensors do not work really well down low there. They are best between 1500 to 5K or so.

I am going to fiddle with your timing curve a bit. It will be a couple hours before I get it back to you.

Aircraft attitude indicators
I looked at those in Aircraftspruce, and never thought of ebay. Retarded...

Ditto the range of resonant frequencies. If you want to get fancy, hook the det sensor output to a microvolt meter, and touch it with a series of tuning forks (know any piano tuners?) or zap it with a tone generator (any superaudiophiles?) and note the peak voltage range. That's the natural freq of the piezo quartz crystal in the sensor, and where you should set the detect freq range in the software.

Careful, Frank. You are getting into the thorny thicket now. Way better to be rich at power type fuelmap ranges (high MAP), because you can avoid the det limit for a while by fuel dumping. You won't make the pure optimum power, but you'll make more power than you would if you turned down the boost.

We sure do not need certs for use of an attitude indicator in our trucks. No reason to pay full money for one.

The wideband can do a fine job of keeping the mixture in a preset range. I do like it's readout for future monitoring of function.
