You might want to pull specs from the 2.6 to compare since that engine will be closer to what you are doing. It can provide NA car and truck as well as a turbo application.

Good idea..... I have the truck N/A specs (intake closing is same as 3.0L truck), so I'll look around for the car and turbo. The cam specs on the N/A 2.6L would seem to agree with your comment about "lazy"..... the intake appears inefficient to require so much valve opening lead.

From a Starion manual,
Intake opens 25 close 59
Exhaust open 64 close 20
Duration 264 each overlap 45

Thanks - that's very interesting..... they used the same cam in the turbo cars as in the N/A truck.

I'll add those two to the list and edit the post.

Immediately after installing MS, the initial mpg was 11, then 12..... drove 177 miles to Atlanta today at a constant speed between 75-80mph....... returned 14mpg - an improvement, but I certainly will need to work on that a bit.

The latest trip from Atlanta to Columbia - between 65-70 mph yielded 17 mpg..... a little better. It's spitting powdery black soot onto the garage floor on startup, so I guess it's too rich - at least on starting - maybe also at idle.

Well, I drove it. Dry pavement wheelspin is just as much fun as I remembered. Still some tuning to do, and maybe (probably) a cam change back to truck cams. Diamante cams may be all right for n/a motors, but I think it's hurtin' the low end hp here. Blower whine is a pretty sound. And the underhood is a work of art...

Hate it we didn't have time to get her out where there was room to play, but Moreland Ave and I285 is not the place.

At the current state of tune, it was right at as fast as the 2.6T with the boost turned up to about 10psi, based on my butt dyno. The tires were about 1" bigger than mine.

I swapped back to 235/75/15s and got some of the low end torque back. She now likes 3000 rpms and 75mph for a cruise. It's much more drivable, but as Eddy says, it still needs some tuning. Since he drove it, I tuned a little more and have lost a little less than 1 psi - an indication that the engine is pumping better and the head work is paying off on flow.

I think I'll get another dyno session to baseline these tires, then when I have time, the first cam trial will be to roll the Diamante cams 3* forward to see if more bottom end develops. That will give me 4* more duration than OE, but with the intake valves closing at the same point as the truck cams..... which will increase the charge volume and cylinder pressure - and hopefully the power produced without adverse effect. The change should also move the torque peak a few hundred rpms lower and light up some asphalt.

Frank, lets go take it drifting on Buford Highway in Dekalb County, where there's an appreciative audience...

I take it that is where that smoke show incident was a few weeks ago?

Good idea - it's probably fortunate that I now can buy tires for $5 each.

The 235 M+S Goodyears actually seem to hook up better than the 32 M/Ts. Maybe we could find a large parking lot and bake some smokin' hot doughnuts.

I expect it's quite comical for some folks to see a couple of cold sober geezers in an old truck - driving like drunken teenagers...... intentionally...... with just a hint of a smile on otherwise serious faces.
