Hate to hear it Frank. Hope all turns out well. Let me know if I can help in any way.

Thanks for the hospitality on Sunday. Really enjoyed the visit. Lisa wanted me pass along her gratitude to Janie for being quite the hostess and shopping buddy.

We'll have to do it again sometime.

Are there inspections you can do with the blower mounted? If it is a bearing in the front cover it may be an easy swap during a free hour of the week. Or is it not that easy.

I just removed the belt and turned the pulley back and forth to check for slop in the coupler - not much there - maybe 1/16-1/8". If the noise is the coupler, supposedly it's noisy at idle - not necessarily when under throttle pressure.

If it was the coupler, I could remove the nose drive and replace the coupler, but I'm afraid the noise I'm hearing is the rotors banging together.... perhaps the result of bearing wear. I can feel the banging on top of the blower rotor housing.

I called Magnuson for advice - not much help.... their only suggestion was to send it back for them to see what's making noise. I need to find my date of purchase and see what the warranty is before making a decision to open it up myself.

It was indeed the rotor bearings.

Last night I finally found a standard serpentine belt and decided to wait until this morning to install it. When I went out it was raining, so I thought it might make the 20 miles to work without seizing and I could change it there after the rain.

It made it 19 miles and seized.... the rotors are locked solid, so it would appear the bearings are fried. I cut off the belt and drove it the last mile...... changed to the standard belt, tied off the bypass valve and it's now at least drivable, but with limited power.

The warranty has definitely expired, so I guess I now get to learn how to rebuild an Eaton blower.

Maybe an M90 would be a nice boost in power (pun intended).

I sure hope it is just a seized bearing and not a destroyed rotor set. nice thing with a gasoline blower is they can generally be polished and put back in service. The blowers for Alcohol run seals and are real moody about damage.

The rotors could well be trashed - at a minimum I'd expect to have the teflon rotor coating reapplied after polishing...... all the rattling and knocking I heard has probably done more damage than I really want to see when I pull it apart.

No, it's the blower - with the belt off, I no longer can turn the blower pulley more than 1/16th turn...... it's locked up.

I also have a slight valve tick, so a needle bearing roller may have chipped a valve.

I'm wondering if the hood scoop is trapping heat and led to bearing failure - or if it's just a fluke. Maybe I'll put a Fluke meter on it.

Anyway, I'll take some pictures of what I find when I get around to pulling the blower. I guess the Raider is retired for the time being.
