No, it's the blower - with the belt off, I no longer can turn the blower pulley more than 1/16th turn...... it's locked up.
I also have a slight valve tick, so a needle bearing roller may have chipped a valve.
I'm wondering if the hood scoop is trapping heat and led to bearing failure - or if it's just a fluke. Maybe I'll put a Fluke meter on it.
Anyway, I'll take some pictures of what I find when I get around to pulling the blower. I guess the Raider is retired for the time being.
Frank Yikes! You know what I'm wondering is if that bracket that went on the nose was by chance pulling on the shaft in some way from when we had to really push on it to tighten it down against its collar. do you know what I'm talking about? Not sure if that would really affect it but.. Shame that happened..

Sorry Frank, that sucks.

I know that the GM 3.8 blowers only need $35 in bearings & seals for a rebuild, not including the nose cone.
Good luck...

Brendan -
That bracket is a support for the nose drive against downward pressure applied by belt tension..... the nose drive is fine - I think the issue is with bearing failure at the rear of the rotor housing.
Ed -
I expect I'll have more to do than just replace the bearings. I'll do a complete rebuild including the coupler, oil change and whatever is needed on the rotors. If the bearing rollers did indeed go through the engine, the rotors may be trashed - and the engine will need work - at least the heads will have to be inspected.
Since it's a hobby truck, I don't mind the work.... I even enjoy tearing it down to find out why something happens - I'm always curious to see what caused a problem and learning how to avoid it in future efforts.

Damn Frank. Cryin' shame, really. Glad I got to drive it before it shat out on you. That was quite an experience. Best of luck with the fixing. Let me know if I can help in any way.
Keep waiting for you to say April Fool's.....

Wonder if the recent "sudden stop" on the timing belt hurt it...

The timing belt isn't connected to the blower serpentine belt except through pulleys, so I wouldn't think so - and it was at idle when the "sudden stoppage" happened. I think it's either a bad bearing or the rating on the M62 is too high. Magnacharger shows the output graph on their products to 15,000 rpms and I have mine turning 13,200 rpms with the engine at 6,000 rpms. I don't think I've turned the engine past 5,500 rpms, so the blower has seen less than 12,500 rpms max.
The truck drove pretty well today without the blower, but on hard initial acceleration I think I heard detonation - some sort of rattle - could be that the N/A rpms and different vacuum level vertices are outside the tuned areas in the MS ECU.... or the rotors could be fluttering against the rotor case.

could be that the N/A rpms and different vacuum level vertices are outside the tuned areas in the MS ECU. It would be similar to a hard part throttle pull, kind of. The fuel should be ok, the timing will be a bit more advanced since you would be at 90Kpa rather than 120+ during an acceleration. Part throttle should not be a big change, 10Kpa maybe? Up here I think we have had a reduction of fuel quality since my SR is back to some detonation. I have been running mid grade but I no longer detect a difference from regular. I would say at least the Gulf stations up here have changed the blend ratio.

Yes, I'm showing quite a bit more vacuum - not surprising with the rotors locked. I'm not sure the bypass valve is completely open. Cruise/no grade at 65-70mph is showing about 10 in/Hg vacuum.
I'm very interested in what fuel economy will be on the trip home today - I have a feeling it'll improve somewhat - maybe a lot.
The noise may be the rotors bouncing in the bearing blocks if the bearings have been chewed up.
