That sucks Frank. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> I loved following this thread...and waiting for you to release a kit! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I'd want to do a tear down inspection too, but I'd feel pretty confident that there won't be too much Collateral damage. I think you'll just be looking at a thorough parts cleaning and a new gasket set to put her back together. My brother dropped a whole 5/16" lock washer down his Bronco 302 one time, only needed some light filing on the piston top and an exhaust valve (and gaskets). He put another 50k miles on it and the guy who bought it is still running the same motor.

Hopefully, there may still be a positive outcome. As you said, maybe Magnacharger will be a standup company. And, maybe you just got the random dipsh!t janitor on the phone.

Being that most of the needle bearing is accounted for there should be little wrong in the engine. The piston rings will need to be serviced. Valves should be fine but need to be looked at.
The basic package is there. Another step in tuning will shurly be addressed.
I hope the outcome with the manufacturer comes out well. So few hours on the blower, kind of sucks in they do not stand behind it.

Cheers, Charlie

That is just not fair!

I have been watching this for a long time and marvelled at your passion for precision!
I posted a link to our local 4x4 forum as well.

To have a part which you bought trip you up, after you manufactured so many yourself!

After a couple of calls from Magnacharger today, things are looking somewhat better. The fellow who called immediately admitted that about the time they made my blower they had a bad batch of needle bearings. He also was quick to point out that my warranty understanding was incorrect..... the warranty is not for 1 year, but 3 years/36,000 miles.... parts and labor. So, he asked me to return it for a full rebuild with any parts not useable to be replaced by them.

I asked about engine damage and suggested that their product should be liable for damages..... offered to provide the labor if they would pay for necessary machine work and needed parts. He spoke with a supervisor, called me back and said we need to take it one step at a time.... nothing was off the table, but they want to see the blower first.

Fair enough, I think..... at least so far. Since they've explained the bearing issue honestly, their admission of product fault should lead to some engine settlement since one is related directly to the other. It seems they intend to operate with integrity.

If every blower they made was like this one, they couldn't stay in business, so I think this is an unusual circumstance - one that hopefully will be resolved to my satisfaction and to their credit.

Frank

Naa, he probably had the head of marketing.

Nice to see the company is real.

Yay! The ***** G-Wagen Kompressor will live again! I still want to out drag it when you get it running right. I'll run you in the SR as soon as I get the turbo on it. 3.0 shorty vs. 3.5 lead sled, blower vs. turbo. I've found an el cheapo 95SR in better shape than mine with an iffy motor I can build up pretty quick, I think...

I'm a cynic by nature, but I just wonder if Frank mentioned a web thread with 30k views to Magnacharger, or if they are just good folks.
