Ed, thanks - we only buy what's brought across the scale.... which usually puts us in the 10 year old and older category.

Frank, thats such a shame for such a nice engine. I think it's all fasteddy's fault.
You know I'm just up the road too if you need the help. I'm on my feet now so next time we meet I'm buying
Is there anything you need from up north while I'm up here?

Well, Larry drove it like he wanted to buy it, Eddy drove it like he stole it....... but I drove it like I owned a dozen of them..... so I can't blame anyone or anything except a bad bearing.
Thanks, but there's nothing I know that I need except the right answer from Magnacharger.

That's right, I sure did..... there's no reason to build something like that if you don't want to have some fun and stick your foot in it.

After a couple of calls from Magnacharger today, things are looking somewhat better. The fellow who called immediately admitted that about the time they made my blower they had a bad batch of needle bearings. He also was quick to point out that my warranty understanding was incorrect..... the warranty is not for 1 year, but 3 years/36,000 miles.... parts and labor. So, he asked me to return it for a full rebuild with any parts not useable to be replaced by them.
I asked about engine damage and suggested that their product should be liable for damages..... offered to provide the labor if they would pay for necessary machine work and needed parts. He spoke with a supervisor, called me back and said we need to take it one step at a time.... nothing was off the table, but they want to see the blower first.
Fair enough, I think..... at least so far. Since they've explained the bearing issue honestly, their admission of product fault should lead to some engine settlement since one is related directly to the other. It seems they intend to operate with integrity.
If every blower they made was like this one, they couldn't stay in business, so I think this is an unusual circumstance - one that hopefully will be resolved to my satisfaction and to their credit.
Frank Ask nicely when they knew they had a problem with a particular production run / batch they did not issue a recall / advisory to anyone who purchased a unit during that time frame. Why let people find out the hard way? Its a good negotiating point if you need one. Kevin

Kevin - good point..... it would have made my life easier if they had done a recall. There would have been some minor inconvenience of removing the blower and waiting while it was rebuilt, but the result of not recalling it has caused the same inconvenience and much more. They probably didn't know how many of the batch they received were bad - and the percentage of bad ones may have been very small compared to the total batch. I'm told it was only a few. I might have made the same choice they did, but your point does raise the issue which recognizes that the choice of inaction should include further responsibility to those who discovered the flaw on their own and suffered unnecessary engine damage.
Les - not yet..... I believe the circumstances are straightforward enough to cause any reputable company to do the right thing..... and I want to give them every opportunity to make that decision without applying any leverage. If they make the right choice I'll continue to believe they are deserving of their reputation.

Look at it from their side. The first they hear about the problem is a blown blower on the customer's car. The first one may be a fluke, so they do the warranty repair. They get another, and the red flags go up. Bad parts batch.
Now, how many are bad? All of them? Not likely. So you have a recall/repair the bad ones decision. A recall costs you more and may hurt your rep worse than just fixing the bad ones and eating some ancillary costs.
Sounds like they are acting fine, so far...

Based on my previous question and your response, how exactly do they plan to rebuild it? The housing and the rotors are shot. That pretty much just leaves the nose, but my money's is on the seats being pounded...
