You kept the 8 point sockets that came with the set? Good call on the extractor fit. I either like to tap the extractor end as I torque it, or use the 1/4"hex impact driver, usually the former.

I used to have a collection of extractors with gallery plugos or broken bolts appartently permanently attached...
