Patience, grasshopper........ don't forget that extra fuel can provide the same benefit as higher octane..... to a point. Let's see what the rod length and deck height are once everything's installed. I do want a crisp throttle, but not a crispy engine.
Maybe if I add enough fuel and delay spark lead, I can get those neat flames out of the exhaust on full throttle.
I'm hoping this block had a long deck height and the align honing didn't reduce it at all...... and I hope I don't need head shims.....
We'll soon see.

I forgot to tell the machinist to remove the front oil gallery plug that rounded off when I was tearing down the block. It's fairly common for this to happen, so some may find this trick useful. Instead of drilling and using an EZ-out, get a #6 screw extractor (sized for 3/8" NPT) and hammer it into the plug as far as you can. It'll bite as it's driven into the allen recess, leaving you with enough purchase to remove the plug: ![[Linked Image]](http://img.techpowerup.org/091108/IMG_5159.jpg) An 8 pt 1/2" socket works best on the extractor. Just support the extractor with your off-hand as you put pressure on the ratchet handle so it doesn't twist and strip the bite: ![[Linked Image]](http://img.techpowerup.org/091108/IMG_5160.jpg) The block has now had an initial thread tapping, then was washed, brushed, dried and painted: After the paint hardens a few days, I'll retap all of the threads and start the build. You kept the 8 point sockets that came with the set? Good call on the extractor fit. I either like to tap the extractor end as I torque it, or use the 1/4"hex impact driver, usually the former.
I used to have a collection of extractors with gallery plugos or broken bolts appartently permanently attached...
I wish you would hurry so I could go ahead and break it again...
