Frank,

After babying the other engine that broke, you know I'm dying to test out your truck now!

I will have my truck finished this week (clutch, engine and transmission seals, rebuilt driveshaft, etc...) unfortunately no power gains like yours but I'm excited.

Well, then you'll have to find an excuse for a road trip and come drive it.

I'm not yet sure exactly what is happening. I'll need to do some more driving to understand it. It could be that at some speeds it needs to do a double kick-down to get into the power band..... if so, maybe a cable adjustment will do the trick.

Frank

Adjusting the cable moves you up and down the pressure curve a bit but it does not change the slope of the curve that is needed to retune the transmission for the greater torque curve. That is where changing the control pressure valve comes in.
In the AW4 transmission behind the 3.5 the control pressure can be adjusted in some of the versions. The same transmission is used in Supra turbos and they can dial in different preloads on the valve. In ours we can either get the adjustable cap from a Toyota or make our own as needed.

Cheers, Charlie

Need a Spot
Frank

I am concerned about even distribution of the air flow. If I place the blower on top of the existing lower intake it seams that a few of the cylinders would get more volume. Did you use something to divert the air flow to even it out amongst the cylinders?

No, that's not necessary. Air will find its way and sort itself.

Like you, I also thought that airflow would be improved by exposing the intake runners to a large pipe - much like the original upper intake - or like a turbo setup - but after trying to find a place to mount the blower alongside the engine, I realized that the top of the lower intake was about the only solution that still allowed me to keep power steering and A/C. That solution also made it much easier to provide a drive belt for the blower.

The choice is yours, but the top location works just fine.

Frank

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Frank,

great build, great pictures along the way, but please post some quality videos, with quality sound. I want to hear this thing!
I also wouldn't mind some nice exterior pics of your rig, I've only seen the front and rear. What hood did you end up with?

Thanks. I'll post a few pictures below. The hood is original, but cut out for the blower and covered with a fiberglass Mustang scoop.

I wish I had a way to post some quality audio, because the sound is gnarly - more like a big block Chevy at idle, but with a turbine whine as it revs. It's a sound that suggests you might not want to mess with it in a sprint between the lights.
