I've got an '83 pickup that is not going into gear (any gear). I'm going to pull the tranmission and look at the clutch but figure I should have a lead on a tranny just in case. I've got a friend with an '84/85 transmission he'll sell me fairly cheap. What year transmissions will fit in an '83 with no modification? I'm assuming '83 and earlier.

you might check the master cluch cyl. and line first. It might just be a simple leak or something, if it is then you just saved alot of time. If not then you wasted 5 mins.

Check Marlin's site, even shoot him a call. I believe you need an L series, not the best tranny Toyota has ever used, but can be serviceable if properly overhauled.

I already replaced the master and slave cylinders and the problem is still there. I was hoping for simple but this things cost me since I got it so why should this be different?
I'll give Marlin a call and see what's up. Good idea. Thanks.

Does anyone know if an '83 transmission from a 2wd can be used in an '83 4wd?

I think the output for a 2wd goes to a drive line so no fitting for a transfer case. for a temp. solution you might be able to use a 2wd drive line and 2wd transmission(if you don't need 4wd right now)
