Hello everybody.....Long time, no see, LOL. Don't hate me, but I sold my Jeep. However, I'm still part of the family and hope you will treat me as such. I've been trading in Rambler stock. I am driving a Mexican Built 1965 Rambler Classic 2 door, (pics soon). and also have a 66 Rambler Classic 4 door. The 65 has a 258, and the 66 a 232. I have off roaded the 65 once....well actually I got pushed off the road! But living in Mexico is like driving off road every day. The roads here SUCK! The 65 really screams as I am using the Weber carb from the Jeep and the HEI that I swapped in made a big difference over the freshly rebuilt points system I was using on her. The 66 is still in Michigan with a fresh motor. A foolish ebay purchase that turned out to have a bad motor, and now that the motor is good, bad brakes! I want to make mkore horsepower with these great motors, and that's why I am posting here. The question to all:
If you had no smog rules, what would you do to get more HP from your 6 cylinder? Thanks for listening, and I wish everyone well....Don't hate me, I'll get another Jeep soon!

Hmmmm, if I didn't have to worry about emmissions and I wanted to beef up an old straight six; this is what I'd do. An engine is not much more than an air pump that makes more power with the more air it moves. So open her up with a better flowing exhaust system. Also a free flowing intake system with a higher duration cam in a ported and polished head. I'd also consider higher compression pistons to make up for the lost compression from the higher duration cam. This combo will make impressive horse power for a six, however there is no substitute for cubic inches when making horse power.

John is directly on top if it! Can you get higher octane down thee? If so you can cut the head some and get some pistons that are total flat tops and not dished or maybe with small domes.... What octane is available? Someone makes a 4-barrel intake for them engines.. But are you after more rpm or just more grunt at the same rpm? Lotta difference in what to do. I have a 258ci w/ an Offenhauser 4bbl intake and an Edelbrock 500cfm Performer 4bbl. The 500cfm is a tad much but can be jetted down to run awesome w/ the 258ci. Holley makes a 390cfm 4bbl that is the perfect size for the 258ci. I still get a kick out of the noise the secondaries make when opening. OH yea no where close to being emissions legal. I get that shocked/ disgusted look from hybrid owners when they smell my rich exhaust....

Good to hear from you again! If you want to keep it simple And not spend a ton of money what I would do (and did), would be swap on a 4.0 head first. That alone will give you about the biggest bang for the bucks. Then with the improved flow you can better utilize other improvements if you want to spend more and feel the need for even more power, bigger carbs/performance intake, more better cam, what ever.

I use 92 octane daily, sometimes when the wallet is thin a 50/50 mix of 87/92 octane. Engine work here is cheap, so that's no problem, getting hi po parts may be difficult so will have to shop in the USA for that stuff. And I have looked around for the 4.0 head, but never found one yet. I have been thinking about the offy intake. Nice to hear of someone who likes them, naver heard a testimonial before. Fuel injection is not a consideration cause I don't wanna put a computer in the beast. Prefer old school. As far as CFM, I need to be conservative at 10,000 ft altitude, real easy to run rich! And when I take the old girl up to the top of the volcano, yes, we have a volcano, and yes it was a gas in the jeep, i can smell the gas practically just pouring out the exhaust (12,000 ft). Thanks for the comments, and I would like to learn more about head work as I have always been a "bolt on" guy, and would like to advance my knowledge, push the limit a bit! Rob
