Getting the Wheeling Fever

This is the first time I replaced the ball joints on my '95 T. I don't believe they've ever been replaced. I didn't expect it to be so difficult. I'm having a hard time getting them off. After hitting the BJ post with penetration fluid for 2 days, I again used the SST ball joint remover (like this one http://brandsplace.stores.yahoo.net/0246-otc7314a.html) and the pickle fork. Yet, I'm still unable to separate them. I torqued the ball joint remover to ~80lb/ft and I'm scared that I'll break it if I tighten it any more. I'm curious if anyone else had this issue. If so, what method works best? Can I heat the steering knuckle with a torch?

How long did you whack at it with the pickle fork? I know mine took quite a bit...

Put the puller on, tighten it, then hit the steering knuckle with a sledge hammer. There is a flat spot on the knuckle where you should hit. They will come out after a few whacks.

I probably spent 10 min total using the pickle fork, over the past 3 days. That said, I've been using only a framing hammer.
I'll try both of your suggestions. Thanks!

They *do* make a pickle fork attachment for air hammers. Rent or borrow as needed.

That said, I've been using only a framing hammer. Yeah, that isn't going to do. You need a sledge; a three pounder does the trick nicely. Heating the knuckle is fine and may help also.

I had to beat the snot out of it with my 22oz Estwing framing hammer... A 3lb sledge or the likes would probably be a lot easier.
