What engine did the v5m31 come with in Gen2 us trucks?
I had figured that it was available with diesels overseas but I was unsure about the us applications. I suspect it was the 3.5?
Which diesels came with the v5m31?
I have the v5mt1 behind my 3.0. Did this tranny come with any of the diesels?
My 3.0 will get 16 mpg even with my lead foot rushing me to work in congested city traffic. It will even get 14 -16 mpg towing my new 5x8 custom trailer fully loaded with the back of the truck full also. I figure the 2.8d will get 25mpg at least (thought I read some stats somewhere before the diesel forum existed)?
I don't expect great acceleration, but how sluggish would the 2.8 be with my limo? My 3.0 is pretty fast with the 5spd so it would be an adjustment.

I have the manual for the V5M31 transmissions.
Here is an application table from it. It only covers up to 1996.

If you need the manual, PM me your e-mail address.

On the 4m40 vs the 3.0V6:

Depending on your driving style, you might just prefer the diesel.
I have had both (3.0V6 and 2.8TD) as company transport, and I prefer the diesel for it's torque and economy. Unless you want to race, the diesel is a pleasure to drive.

The best of the bunch is the 4m41, though (3,2 Di-D diesel)!

My 4D56T comes in front of a V5MT1. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

PHIL,

Do you have a manual for the V5MT1 (like in book, not opposite of automatic)?

If not, I can send by e-mail in PDF format.
