 Air Conditioning not working!

So its starting to warm up... Pushed the button for the a/c and it didnt like up like it used to. Checked all the fuses, not that i could find one specifically for the a/c, and they were all fine. I thought that maybe i had forgot to plug the button back in when i was digging back there trying to fix the fan switch, but it was plugged in when i checked. Any ideas? Thanks!

What year is it? It may need to be recharged.

'95. Its not that it needs to be recharged, the button that turns the a/c is not turning it on... as in the a/c compressor does not engage when you push the button. theres a wiring short somewhere...

If the system is low on refrigerant,then the pressure switches will not activate and you could push the on /off button all day and the compressor will not cycle on or off,if all wiring looks good,then have a pressure test done
to indeed see if the system needs rechargeing.Also check the wiring on the compressor it self,I had a belt break on mine and it took out the wiring to the compessor.

I had a similar problem after I played with my belts. I was trying to stop the squeeling power steering belt and left the AC compressor belt loose. After I tightened the AC belt, it started working again. Just a thought.

I havent changed anything belt wise... the a/c was working fine a year ago, then the thing died for 7 months (wiring...) and when i got it running again it was october. no need for a/c. I know the belt is tight. I will check the pressure tommorow. Having an auto-shut off for low pressure in the a/c system would be a new one for me... wouldnt it also throw a code if that were the case? When all yalls a/c wasnt working, did the light on the button come on?

Just a thought... is the A/C switch ok??? Is the fan working?? Is the fan sending to the a/c the "command" remember that the ac does not light up unlless also the fan is on or the a/c thinks that the fan on

There is a pressure switch on the refrigerant line . If pressure is too low, the switch opens and turns the A/C circuit off. I diagnosed a low pressure problem on another car by pulling the switch connector out and jumping the connector from one prong to the other..and this allowed starting the compressor right away...proving all was right...except the pressure in the line.
