I've run both electirc and clutch fans, I find the clutch works fine. I have had bad luck with non-Toyota/Aisin brand clutches. I think my original clutch (Aisin) lasted well over 200K miles then became too stiff and was killing my gas mileage (it is now my spare). I picked up a new Aisin clutch from Toyota and it has worked fine since then, can crawl in lo-lo range all way long in the desert and the temperature neve rises.
