These days, a quart of oil per 1000 miles is not an acceptable norm, even when mileage exceeds 100k. Yes, its good to "check your oil". But most people don't want to spend the next 100k under the hood checkin and fillin. I had my oil changed by the dealer in a timely manner for my first 90,000 miles, so there was no lack of care on my part, but now I still have the problem, and though under warranty, Isuzu has arbitrarily picked a consumption number that they believe to be "within specs". Thats just not acceptable to me and should not be to others. And if this is not generally a problem, as seems to be the consensus, and my 2001 3.5 L is unusual, they should fix it under warranty.

Rightly or wrongly, almost every manufacturer uses 1 quart/1000 miles as the benchmark for acceptable oil use. Like it or not, this is not an Isuzu thing, it is an industry thing.

Adding a quart once a month doesn't seem all that onerous, although it would be nice if you didn't have to do it as often.

Then it went to a quart every 1k, and settled in at a quart every 500 miles.

Wayne;
Wouldn't that classify it as some kind of ôMulti fuelö hybrid <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />
