Sounds like a virgin engine to me. The engine that came in my 85' Celica was all original never torn down and like what you seen...no over/undersizing stamped into the bearing half shells. On the pan rail you should see two rows of #s. the 4 number line is the spec the block was bored to IE: 2222 which means all 4 cylinders had the same bore diameter. The 5 number row is main bearing diamter for the crankshaft. Pretty rare to get one with all 5 matching.
