Yup. Searched for a while.
Anyways, anyone have (hopefully) an easy place to drill thru the firewall on a G2 Troop? Its time to mount my CB a bit more solid and wire the 135w KC's that have been sitting around for over a year. I tried piggy backing some of the grommets on the firewall, but once inside, it was too tight of a fit/could not reach it without ripping out the dash.

Body Damage is Cool
If you go through either the left or right firewall plug with a sharpened coat hanger taped to a lead wire (then do successive wires staggered down) you should be all set. The driver's side will be the easiset since its open with the pedals. Never tried this on my second gen though.

Worst case scenario you could go through a hole drilled through the shifter boot. Run a cable down the firewall over the transmission.

Any clear shots behind the glovebox?

A coat hanger worked with my 4-Runner, but I could not seem to get a good shot at it, I will look again. Behind the glove box lives all of the heater goodies.

A good source (IMHO) for rubber firewall grommets is the "HELP!" section at the parts store. I found a PCV grommet for AMC cars that fits snugly into a 7/8" hole. The center hole is about 3/8" but could be filled with RTV or drilled out. Not sure where you'd drill on the firewall, but this may help keep it weatherproof once you decide on a spot.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
This won't help if you have a 5spd but for those of us with automatics, there is a plate where the clutch master cyl. mounts on the firewall that is easy to access and can be removed and drilled or modified off the vehicle and then replaced. Reid
