If you go through either the left or right firewall plug with a sharpened coat hanger taped to a lead wire (then do successive wires staggered down) you should be all set. The driver's side will be the easiset since its open with the pedals. Never tried this on my second gen though.

Worst case scenario you could go through a hole drilled through the shifter boot. Run a cable down the firewall over the transmission.
