Just a couple of notes for future searches.

Installed a set of AAL's on my double cab to get rid of the saggy butt syndrome. Current lift set-up is the Tuff Country spacer kit in the front, Fab Tech FT 205 AAL and Tuff Country gas charged shocks (rear.) Yay for me.

Anyhow, hereÆs some notes;

1.The blocks installed on the rear of the TRD Sport DC leave a bit to be desired. The springs (by my SOTP analysis) are a bit on the soft side and very flat. Almost zero positive arch to them from the factory. The blocks tend to "cantilever" the axle a bit and you donÆt get an even lift. I donÆt have any real data in comparison to the base model or TRD Off Road rear springs, but the Sport springs are soft"ish". Also, smoky burnouts with the blocks would wrap the axle in a heartbeat causing nasty wheelhopà

2.Holy geez, watch those rubber brake lines when installing the AAL's! Those suckers are SHORT. I'll be ordering a set of extended lines soon.

3.The rear end now sits perfect in comparison to a 3" front lift on this specific installation. About a 1/2" higher.

4.Load capacity is a bit more tolerant, not much more than originally though. I loaded the camping gear in the other weekend and it squatted down a little but not as much as with the blocks.

5.Off road, way better than the blocks. Way better (although this should be presumed to be a given.) The 05 - > rear flexes pretty impressively stock, I didnÆt notice much difference with the AAL's.

Overall, specific to this installation, the AAL's are perfect. The rear suspension works much better on the street and in the dirt. BTW, I bought my AAL's from TRDParts4U, great vendor.

Mike

Update.

The rear add a leaf has settled a bit and now sits dead level on a dead level surface.

Load capacity is much better that before.

The TRD Sport springs are SOFT! I'll either add a Super Spring or buy some OEM TRD Off Road springs and install the AAL. Load capacity is still an issue but I believe that's due to the Sport springs and the hood scoop.

Hi Mike. I'm looking at a Tuff Country 3" kit for my 07 Tacoma TRD O/R. Looks like I can order it with rear blocks or add-a-leaf. I'm opting for the leaf, just wanted to ask if you've had any problems with your lift.
Thanks - John

I have the Tuff Country 3" with AAL's on my '05 and haven't had any trouble with it. About 1500 miles since the install so it hasn't been tested too much. It definitely hauls a load of firewood much better with the AAL than stock.

John,

No problems at all. Definitely go with the AAL over the block. The block was causing some spring wrap issues, even as small as the block was.

After several months with the AAL, it has settled slightly, but not enough to sag the rear end.

I know what you mean with the tires looking small. I'm hoping to fix that this summer along with some other projects. Looks good.
