HEY ANDRE I THINK YOUR PROB, NOW IS JUST THE RATIO OF THE THROTTLE ARM COMPARED TO THE OPENING RATION ON THE T/V/ , TRY ADJUSTING THE CABLE LIKE THIS WITH THE CABLE DISSCONNECTED FROM THE THROTTLE ARM PULL OUT ON THE CENTER CABLE , FROM CABLE REST UNTILL YOU CAN FEEL THE SPRING IN THE T/V/ VLV MAKE CONTACT THERE SHOULD BE A LITTLE BIT OF CABLE MOVEMENT BEFORE THE VLV STARTS TO MOVE ,FROM THIS POINT ADJUST THE CABLE TO FOLLOW THE THROTTLE ARM , AND THE REASON IT DIDN,T ***** INTO THIRD YOU PROB, JUST WASN,T GOING FAST ENOUGH YET , WHEN IT IS ADJUSTED CORRECTLY IT SHOULD COME OUT OF FIRST ABOUT 15 MPH AND OUT OF SECOND ABOUT 25 MPH WITH A LITE THROTTLE , IT MAY TAKE A BIT OF PLAYING WITH TO GET IT LIKE YOU WANT IT AS FAR AS THE SHIFT POINTS GO. IPLAYED WITH THE 700R4 IN THE 89 TROOPER ABOUT 3 DAYS BEFORE I GOT LIKE I WANTED . JERRY

OK i been trying to follow this thread on ajusting the tv cable, i just finish a 4.3tbi 700r conversion and the way i was told to set my tv cable was with it hook up to the tbi unit and mounted on the bracket, the piece that ajust the cable in and out, set it all the way in then with the engine off by hand move the thottle to wot, it should set it's self, them do the same thing when the trans is hot. Good luck Don

I never thought it would be as particular as it's turned out to be. That method was pretty much the baseline I started with. Hopefully, I should get some good time in on it this weekend to get the steering in shape, and figure this TV cable out.

DVTROOPER IS CORRECT ON A STOCK THROTTLE CABLE SETUP WITH THE STOCK BRACKET THAT THE CABLE GOES IN AND ON THE THROTTLE END , IT IS VERY SIMPLE TO LET IT SET ITSELF , CLOSED THROTTLE TO WOT OPEN THROTTLE BUT IN THE CASE OF THE RODEO THROTTLE WHEEL , IT WILL TAKE A BIT OF PLAYING WITH ,DON,T GIVE UP, JERRY

DON,T GIVE UP

Don't worry, I've put too much into this to throw in the towel. I've just had a frustrating week overall. Once I get more than 30 min at a time to work on it, I'll get it fugured out

Got a few issues worked out this weekend. I drained the T-case to address the leaks. The rear cover plate was easily fixed with some RTV. Once I pulled the rear driveshaft, I noticed way too much play in the rear output shaft. Apparently what happend was that the dust shield on the Isuzu flange I used was hitting the lip of the T-case output. This is why it wouldn't turn when I torqued down the nut. Once things got turning, the lip got worn down, and the shaft started to ride on the seal, which wasted the rubber portion, and allowed the oil out. I pulled the dust shield off, and ordered a new seal, which should take care of things. At least I didn't drive it any more than I did .

I got out my trusty Ohm meeter, and determined that the trans temp sender is grounded to the T-fitting, and the ground wire I installed is indeed grounded to the frame. I ran out of hose clamps, so I couldn't get that finished before the rain started. With the rest of these little issues addressed, I can consentrate on the TV adjustment.

Spent a couple hours yesterday pulling and re-installing the T-case. I was getting a lot of leakage from the T-case adapter (ATF). I never thought I had to seal this area up with RTV, but I guess so. I got everything put back together except the cross member, which I'm modifying to mount the new skid plates. I'm waiting on a replacement rear T-case output seal since the parts shop has ordered me the wrong part twice

I got the Temperature sensor working. I think it may have been a power problem all along. After eliminating the ground issue I moved on to the power, switched that around, and got things reading.

I'm going to draw out my skid plates on the 1/4" plate I picked up. I've modeled the skids in cardboard, and I'm going to have the guy with the plasma cut them out for me this week . I'm running one from the stock front cross member (between the LCAs) to the stock tranny cross member, which will bolt in place. I'm debating welding the T-case skid onto the trans cross member. I would drill a hole for draining, but I would need to remove the cross member to drop the bottom plate of the case. It would be a heck of a lot easier.

As soon as I get the rear seal, I can get the TV cable asjustment finalized, and be ready for some wheeling

One thing I can't figure out is the light on my stock trans shifter has gone out . It's only anoying at night, but I wonder if the transmission connectors had anything to do with it, or if something got disconnected at the shifter.

Any thoughts?

Almost there'

Found part of my problem last night. Here is the new rodeo flange next to the stock D300 output yoke
[Linked Image]

Once I got the replacement seal yesterday, it became obvious that the ID would not fit the D44 flange. I don't know why I didn't check this before. When I torqued down the output shaft nut, it most likely pressed out the rubber portion of the seal, and created the leak. The front output seems to be sealed just fine using the same seal, and I'm not inclined to go looking for new problems. It's possible that the front yoke, which was from a '98 Amigo 4.77 10-bolt 3rd member, has a lower profile flange shaft, which fits the seal.

So basically, I need to find a source for a seal to meet these measurements. My first stop was McMaster.com, but I can't seem to find anthing that matches this type of seal. Any other ideas for listings of seals by dimension? It's a standard oil seal, with a steel ring, and a rubber gasket on the inside with a spring.

I dropped off my skid plate to be cut today. Glad I remembered my geometry

That mess will all make sense once its welded together.

After getting the wrong part three times, I finally got the seal I needed for the rear T-case output. I got that installed only to find out that the flange was not thick enough. The nut would bottom out the threads on the output shaft before the bearings were loaded. I had the nut torqued to 100 ft-lbs and there was still a lot of play in the shaft. After talking things over with Doug, I decided to cut a spacer to put behind the washer, that would fit over the splines on the output shaft. I just happend to find a nice deal on a drill press, which made cutting the circluar spacer much nicer . I used a 1.25" hole saw to cut the ID, and a 1.75" hole saw for the OD, and cut it out of 1/4" plate. I tacked it to the washer to keep everything lined up, and it worked great.

Even though the skid plates were cut exactly to my specifications, they still needed substantial modification to fit A cut here, and a trim there, and things are looking good. I didn't get a chance to take any pictures since I leave for Callalantee on Wednesday. I'm sure I'll get some pics this weekend.

I've also been playing with the TV cable adjustment, and I think I've got it where I like it. I had to get a more controled adjustment than moving the cable stop every time, so I unbolted the bracket, and rotated it around the threaded cable each time. I might end up having to shorten the throttle arm, since it seems that I don't have enough pull to get to WOT with this setup. It shifts and kicks down properly under medium throttle. I'll just have to keep that in mind this weekend. I love the fact that I can trailer it up now

Now I just need to figure out how to use a twin stick
