fidgit drilling holes in a frame is not hazardous at all. Look at any frame or structure member...holes are common and do not limit the capacity of the frame. Unless of course the holes are waaay oversized. Self tapping screws would, in my opinion, do nothing worth noteing to a frame. Big Jim

Well one how many self tapping screws have you seen that would hold up the shovel.
And also it is the principle of it I view it right up there with someone lifting up my wifeÆs skirt.
Harmless but you better not do it.

Fidigit I am not argueing it was done correctly! I am taking the side of the tek screws. They are stronger than most folks think. I am sure I would have used the existing crossover holes and done something to support the thing in the normal position. As for your wife? Mine carries a .38! I pity the poor guy that lifts hers. I would like to be around to watch though. Big Jim

So apparently my skid plate is also an integral part of supporting the transmission!
I went to have a new soft top installed today (WOOO!!)
and got my skid plate problems fixed as well. The stock holes where stripped out (rusted out perhaps?) and he welded in some plates, and installed new bolts all the way around. I guess if I hadnt gotten it fixed and the tranny shifted more, it would have royally screwed my TJ. Its all good now :-)
