Look closely.. My son saw me doing it a few years back and he did the next 5 or 6 himself. I forget zackly what holds the axel in place but it is very obvious.
All of these odometers are very much the same. They have the braces to hold the numbers from spinning and going backwards. Don't let them go round either. It is not hard to do you just have to bite the bullit and do it.
