Yup, the 2.8 and 3.1 turbo diesel engines have different cylinder heads and you are correct Stephan. You would probably know more given you have seen them up close and have got your hands dirty too. I for one have not. But the reason they are different is because the 2.8 4JB1-T is a direct injection diesel, while the 3.1 4JG2-T is an indirect injection diesel. This is the main difference with the heads, but also the size of the engines have to do with it too. Apparently Isuzu went to direct injection and then decided to go back with indirect injection like they had on the older 2.2 C223-T. Not sure exactly why they did it either? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> But I'm sure there was a reason.
