i hate to say it, but my raider (rip) was the most unreliable car i have owned, it left me stranded so many times. All my toyotas have been bullet proof.

My Mother bought a Gremlin back in the day brand new, and I remember watching it roll down into our pond when my dad forgot to put the parking brake on Needless to say, my mom is back to driving Volvo again and is satisfied after totalling her last one.
All Monteros here, My Accord was my first non Mitsu, and it was given to me, so far proved to be the best investment yet!

1986 Lincoln Mk VII with an EEC IV ignition that left me stranded a number of times at the worst possible locations. Donated to Salvation Army for tax write-off.
1984 Pontiac T1000 (Chevette) with lingering electrical problems and a stick shift that would periodically become disconnected from the rest of the shift linkage. Gave to ex-girlfriend to get her off my back. (She called later that day for instructions about how to reconnect the stick shift).
Best car at the time was my 1972 Chevrolet Impala with a 350/T-H 350 auto two door. Always came back for more.

The worst I've had was my Chevy Monza 2x2...I can't even remember the year...I think it was a '76? My parents had a Chrysler Lebaron Town & Country (fake wood siding included) station wagon that was ALWAYS broke down...first car I ever drove (legally), and went on my first few dates in it...so it will have a soft spot in my heart even though it was junk. Nothing beats being 16, living in the hills of kentucky, and having the keys to the wagon.

All of the Jeeps I owned would make it home, but always late. My 1983 postal Jeep looked cool with winter Camo paint but would shut down when driven in 3rd gear on the freeway. My 1975 Cherokee Chief was the best riding vehicle I've had but I couldn't keep a transfer case in it...four years / 1300 miles.
I had a 1975 Pacer, didn't take the keys out of it for 2.5 years, parked it with the windows down hoping it'd go missing. For 6 mpg, the air should have worked. I cracked the transmission case offroading it. Darn!!
Best cars include my Silver Montero. I hit a tree, wiped out the right rear quarter, bent the frame, cut off the doors and put another 2000 miles on it before the radiator split. Now it is a parts hulk, stripped of it's former self. Parts live on in other states and countries

So the only "they"s that show such fear and derision while justifying their disdain with the flag waving are in the South?

The worst I've had was my Chevy Monza 2x2... Wow! There's a car's name I haven't heard in a long time! Did those things make it past four or five years from factory floor?

My worst cars have always been of the mopar persuaion. I had a dodge neon that was awful to sit in, needed another gear on the highway. The paint started peeling off at 43000. The other was a 1996 dodge intrepid. Bought it with 60000 miles. By 70000 the ac had quit, the rear main seal was leaking and a bunch of other problems. Sold it to a young kid and YES I TOLD HIM of the oil leak and to check it. He siezed it up 2 weeks after he bought the car. He stopped payment on his check for half ( the other was cash) In the end I had paid 6500 and 1 year later sold it for 3000. And yes I did get my money from the kid. Now my wife has a Caravan KEEPING MY FINGERS CROSSED!!!

My first car was a 1976 Chevy Chevette (pronounced "Shove-it").
It had the rally package (some stripes) and a 1.6L engine. If the the Chevettes with 1.5Ls in them were POS, this one carried POS to one-tenth of a liter bigger.
Damn thing ran hot from sitting in the sun (keys in my pocket). I rarely knew if I'd get from point A to point B and usually carried a bike in the back just in case.
Admittedly, that was in the latter days of it's life (it was almost six years old).
In late 82, I bought my first real car - an 83 Honda 1500S Civic. Comparatively speaking. That car was a rocket.
87 Montero, bought new, by me - 88/89 intercooled Starion Turbo engine- with awesome audio.

My Dad had a 1974 Vega. At 32,000 miles, despite getting its oil changed every 3000 miles it started using oil.
We ignored that and just added a quart every 1000 miles till I totaled it at 99,000 miles.
To get the car to that millage we had to put on one set of brakes, two sets of tires, a clutch, spark plugs, a few air filters, a starter and a few other odds and and ends.
The car was actually very reliaible for that era.
Id did have its issues. The tranny was always a bit balky when shifting. It had the US made unit, not the german one. First gear was way too steep and you needed to slip the cluthc to get going. Adapting a big motor tranny to a 4 cyl is a bad idea, the ratios are all wrong.
Of course it had the oil problem. The timing belt snapped at 35,000 (that was its only real breakdown). It got stuck in reverse a few times, and it was rusting around the winshield trim clips. The rust problem started after two years.
My Dad bought it as a left over in 1976 from a dealer that went bankrupt for $2400. When I got hit in it by a girl that ran a stop sign the entire vehicle was on its last legs.. It still looked pretty good though ( we had the rust fixed by a friend). We got $2000 in insurance for it.
I atually liked driving the car. It got decent fuel economy, handled well and was comfiortable. It was not fast though!
Not best car ever made by a long shot. The real issues I had was the body rust and the engine.
87 Turbo Intercooled Raider, roller cam, torsen rear diff, LSD front diff, lockup auto with modified converter, V6 brakes, low transfer case gears...
