Except for enthusiasts there seems very little interest in the Trooper. I've had my 2001 listed for a while at KBB retail due to its exceptional condition, with a lot of hits on my web-site(it is a good looking vehicle), but no even an offer? I've not had any problems with mine but is this model just a poor quality vehicle in the eyes of the public or just in general?
Just wondering what a knowledged enthusiat point of view is.

Trooper resale value has always been low. This is great if you're buying one, but not good if you're selling one. I'm not sure why; the Consumer Reports bogus report about rollovers seemed to damn the Trooper back in '96(?), but for whatever reason, the resale bites.
Also, KBB and other "guides" are not so accurate in their estimations of resale value. The best method is to scan other listings to see what the same vehicle is bringing.
Good luck. I'm happy folks don't know how great these rigs are - that means more selection for me when I want to buy another one...

Plus you are trying to sell a MAKE and MODEL no longer sold in this country. That always makes it hard to find buyers.

I do not know... recently, I was looking for a 2 gen Trooper in my area. No one in good condition was available anywhere. I had to switch my search to others vehicles.
2 years ago, I was looking for a 2 gen Trooper for my friend. We spent 2 months and we managed to find only 1 (one!) Trooper in excellent condition in this area (SF & vicinity). The owner wanted the highest KBB value. OK, we agreed upon this. But the owner had been delaying the deal until he eventually decided that he changed his mind about the price and he asked $2,000 more than KBB dealer price in excellent condition. My friend was fed up with this and eventually he decided that he would be better with a different brand becouse it's so hard to find a Trooper owner who wants to part with it's vehicle in good condition.
My friend had my Rodeo as an example of a used SUV. The Rodeo was used for "expeditions", for commute and for mild offroading. It had no leaks, no drivetrain damage, no major repairs, and the interior was in good condition. My friend expected that an on-road used Trooper must be at least in the same condition. Wrong. Every one Trooper we were checking had either engine swapped, or leaking seals, or destroyed interier, or badly neglected maintenance, or else.
So, the guy had a "monopoly" on good used Troopers in the area, and, naturally, he wanted an exorbitant price for it. It says a lot about the REAL Trooper's prices.
Having this experience, I am very doubtful about the stories of quickly depreciated Troopers. There is just no market of REAL used Troopers. All Troopers I've seen so far have been in very bad condition, after collisions or after engine/tranny changes.
There is so meager number of good Troopers on the market, that you just cannot make any conclusions about their real price.
In my experience, 99% used Troopers on the market are just "dead" (collision, high mileage, bad maintenance, engine swaps, etc). Naturally, their prices are low. But you cannot deduce that the overall Trooper's price is low.

FWIW, Edmunds.com "True Market Value" is usually lower than Kelley...not sure if they are more realistic or what but there it is.

Thanks for the freindly responses! So it sounds like a love em or hate em situation... Oh well, it's a great tertiary vehicle for me since it's fully covered for any problem bumper to bumper until 2011. I just wish I could get better fuel economy out of it than 19 mpg(and it's a 5spd)... 3.25/gal for a 23 gallon tank is HURTFUL! Check out my vehicle if you like: http://mysite.verizon.net/res70rgm/trooperI've heard the diesel versions were unreliable at past 70k miles... Did they get any better fuel economy?

Just for the record, I picked up my 2002 Trooer S last month for $8500. I couldn't be happier, with the truck and with the price I paid.
It's an automatic, 34k miles, aftermarket stereo, new Revos, a mild lift, and more. It took a couple of months to find, and I'm glad I was ready when it showed up, because it wouldn't have lasted long on the market.
I think I shocked the heck out of the seller, because after the test drive I told him I'd take it for the asking price. I thought it was a great price, and I didn't want to take advantage of the guy. I probably could have knocked a bit more off the price if I was so inclined.

My two cents on the price problem is like what has been stated, but I don't agree with a parts shortage. I haven't had any more problems today than I did back in 87 with my first Trooper. There has never been much of an after market for parts and Mods but same with every other import with the exception of Toyota and a few late model Nissan trucks. Before you cry the blues check out the resale on Ford Explores or 90's Suburbs
