I do not know... recently, I was looking for a 2 gen Trooper in my area. No one in good condition was available anywhere. I had to switch my search to others vehicles.

2 years ago, I was looking for a 2 gen Trooper for my friend. We spent 2 months and we managed to find only 1 (one!) Trooper in excellent condition in this area (SF & vicinity). The owner wanted the highest KBB value. OK, we agreed upon this. But the owner had been delaying the deal until he eventually decided that he changed his mind about the price and he asked $2,000 more than KBB dealer price in excellent condition. My friend was fed up with this and eventually he decided that he would be better with a different brand becouse it's so hard to find a Trooper owner who wants to part with it's vehicle in good condition.

My friend had my Rodeo as an example of a used SUV. The Rodeo was used for "expeditions", for commute and for mild offroading. It had no leaks, no drivetrain damage, no major repairs, and the interior was in good condition. My friend expected that an on-road used Trooper must be at least in the same condition. Wrong. Every one Trooper we were checking had either engine swapped, or leaking seals, or destroyed interier, or badly neglected maintenance, or else.

So, the guy had a "monopoly" on good used Troopers in the area, and, naturally, he wanted an exorbitant price for it. It says a lot about the REAL Trooper's prices.

Having this experience, I am very doubtful about the stories of quickly depreciated Troopers. There is just no market of REAL used Troopers. All Troopers I've seen so far have been in very bad condition, after collisions or after engine/tranny changes.

There is so meager number of good Troopers on the market, that you just cannot make any conclusions about their real price.

In my experience, 99% used Troopers on the market are just "dead" (collision, high mileage, bad maintenance, engine swaps, etc). Naturally, their prices are low. But you cannot deduce that the overall Trooper's price is low.
