You'd be suprised at how many times I heard about a 60* GM engine that cracked a crankshaft. A mechanic friend of mine refers to them as the crank crackers-- he says that the 2.8 was a particularly notorious one. My only experience with this engine is the one in my 90 trooper XS(anybody know what XS stands for??? x-tra stuff, x-tra sweet, etc.) and I'm experiencing some sort of mechanical problem with it now that is causing the timing to be thrown off. But that's another story... Of all the off road vehicles that I ever drove, the best engine (but by no means the best everything else) was the 4.0 liter Jeep engine. Good hp and torque and bulletproof. I wish there was a way to drop one of those in one of my troopers, while still saving the isuzu drivetrain, which is far superior to the cheap jeep drivetrain.
