Looks like a sweet rig. V-6, locker, definately a nice ride. My Dad's got an '01 4cylinder extra-cab that I've taken on long trips and it drove like a dream. I wouldn't mind having one as an expedition/trip rig.

I hear the Taco's big weak point is the tie rod ends, so you might want to at least keep a spare set handy.

Inner tie rod ends, to be specific; where they bolt to the rack rod. Except, mine are fine. The rack *itself* has vertical play on the driver's side however... The ITREs don't break usually, but do develop some serious play. If you look at them you'll wonder how they hold up as well as they do though.

Scrap the whole front end, do what you do best, Zukster.

Bill, I'm gonna keep the IFS coil-over front for the time being. I do have a direction that I am going with this nice cushy rig.....a little lift(2~3") and a little bigger tire(a narrow 33").....a lockrite in the front......and another 2.228 transfer case stuck between the existing transfer/tranny. Some nerfs and a rear bumper change.... and I think that's about it. I'm gonnba make it into a 'sleeper'.
.
.
I will look at the tie-rod issue closer as others have mentioned but I wonder if I will ever have any probs with the mild lift/tires I selected? (keeping the factory inset wheels which minimizes the scrub radius).
.
.
....I really like the older Runners because the top comes off and the bed is just as functional as the pick-up.....but this extracab with all the nice features and on-roadability is NICE. I'm trying to keep the on-road ride while enhancing the off-road part....a tricky balance.

Glad to see you're putting all that money for gear setups that we send you to good use... should make an awesome sleeper rig! Post up some build-up pics when you can (once it cools off, of course!)
