I got oil leaking from center of the front crank pully, on the back side. SO I guess it gotta be my crank pully front seal.

So should I get stock seal from dealer or just go to local store & get whatever brand available?

Anyone have done this also?

-Screw-driver to pry it out?
-What size socket/round tube to press in, with hammer?

Thanks.

Given our temp extremes up here I stick with the Yota seal; just my personal pref.

Crank bolt--19mm socket, rest breaker bar on driver's side frame. Remove coil plug. BUMP, do not start engine--

Crank pulley should simply wiggle off. This is also a good time to swap out belts if yours are lookin' a bit ratty.

The oil that comes out from behind the seal is minimal; have a rag handy.

Inspect pulley. If there are any grooves, then you need a speedy-sleeve (NAPA). Put some RTV or loctite on the pulley, gently tap sleeve back on; I use a block of wood on top of the sleeve for this part.

Use a seal puller or S.D to remove seal; be VERY careful not to gouge the oil pump body, or you'll be out some moola for a new one.

Lightly grease new seal and tap back in; a socket works well if you don't have a sealer. Make sure it's fully seated.

Reinstall. Put truck in highest gear and set ebrake. Torque crank pulley bolt to 116 ft-lbs. (rent the wrench)

Finish putting stuff back together, tighten belts etc. Check oil level and fire up to check for leaks.

I use factory seals when I can, the parts store seals just don't last as long. JMTCW

i usually have pretty good luck with parts store seals, national(NAPA/carquest) isn't a bad brand. timken seals for toyotas are generally an OEM seal, though...

Looks like the one in the rear; steel.

[Linked Image]

If your crankshaft neck is grooved or pitted, it won't help to just use a new seal; still gonna leak.

No, you will have a little seepage of what's left in the pump, but that's about it.

Really?

Does it mean that my 4cyl oil pan itself is deep enough to hold all the 4-5L of oil?

Look at the rear sump portion of the pan, and look at its relation to the pump. The pump sit's pretty high over the pan. The only oil you will lose is what's left in the pump when the crank pully is removed.
