Does anyone know if a ford 6.9 diesel will fit into a 1986 4runner?

No, but I think a Rolls Royce 1600 cubic inch V-12 Spitfire engine, supercharged, with nitrous, may fit. LOL.

You may want to build a new frame to support that behemoth.. it probably only weighs 5x as much as your 22re, dry, add the 26l of oil and 20l of coolant...heh... good luck!

Body Damage is Cool
What transmission and differentials would you run with it? With 400+ ft/lb of torque you'd shred all the Toyota pieces the first time out. Maybe that 4cyl diesel that they're putting in the Jeep Liberty would be a better choice, especially if the Mercedes part of Diamler/Chrysler had anything to do with the design of it. Or even better, a late model Toyota Tacoma diesel from an Asia, Australia, Africa or South America market version. -- Matt

I'm putting a large wager that that liberty diesel makes more power than the ferd'
