As you may or may not know, I bought Rodney's 95 SR and it has the factory alarm/keyless entry system built into it, so my parts buddy at Mitsu hooked me up with 2 factory remotes but he said...

"you'll have to program them and we charge $45 a remote to do that"

but figuring that I go a sweet deal in these things, and the info must either in the factory manuals or somewhere.. someone must know...

Anyone know how to do it?

Thanks,
Jason

P.S. I got a factory fresh set of 93-95 manuals that will be coming next week that I'm gonna be getting ready to scan !!!

Apparantly, there are three different systems that can be used on that car, and all three require a scan tool to program.

ok.. good news and bad news...

Good news... I got both the Factory Manuals (and I guess I won't both to scan them then) and I got my two factory remotes...

It's very easy to program new units (in the BODY SECTION), on the remote computer in the back near the rear speaker, there's a "3way/position switch" thats labeled

"set-I / FIX / set-II" (upon looking at mine, it was always at set-I )

anyways, get your remote, set the switch to "set-I" and click either the "LOCK" or "UNLOCK" ONCE!!.

Then set the switch to "FIX".. (but the factory manual doesn't tell you is you have to close all your doors to try it out), then repeat for remote #2 but set it to "set-II"

BAD NEWS is whenever I click the unlock button on the remote now, the doors unlook for a second or so, and then lock again. They go UP and then DOWN. I tried programming with all the doors in locked position, open, etc....

the factory manual doesn't show anything, no troubleshooting,etc... It didn't even say after you set the switch back and try the remote to make sure the DOORS ARE CLOSED OR THE LOCK SYSTEM WON'T WORK !!!!!

and it's 100* here right now and alittle hot so I had all the doors open. That took me abit to figure out.

any thoughts on why the locks "open and close" right away ?

thanks

I believe that you have a bad driver front master power lock solenoid. If you do a "search" on the forum, there is a writeup from someone describing a fix for it fixing some sort of "pizza gear" inside the assembly. My locks do exactly what you described and I have not fixed them yet....

tried searching and cannot find it. also, don't see how a gear can fix this. This appears to be electrical or some type of programing issue with the remote to me. dunno.

I mean, the locks, the solenoids, etc all work fine.

excellent, I'm gonna try the driver side door first and pull the signal wires (two greens) for the switch only for the actuators and see what happens, if not, go try the passenger door then.

I guess its very common for those door lock/unlock/key switches to go out in the SR's

Body Damage is Cool
After reading Scottie's post - which was damn good by the way - I believe I'd try to replace the rubber bumpers. A good quality typing eraser is easily cut with a razor blade and shaped to the needed spec. A little epoxy will go a long way for holding the rubber stoppers in place and will not degrade over time or heat exposure. Apply it with a flat tipped toothpick.

Need a Spot
Monte,

Can you post the exact serial number on your new remotes? My lone remote is getting warn out, and I'd like to replace it and get another also. I'm just curious if a later model Mitsu factory remote would work. I had a hard time finding an exact replacement remote for my 95 SR.

Thanks
