Getting the Wheeling Fever
Ok, so just when I'm really starting to enjoy my isuzu powered jeep, me and a bmw decided to do the 'tarmac tango'. I won't lie to you guys--it wasn't pretty. His BMW looks like a crumpled up piece of newspaper. My Jeep looks more or less ok except for the fact that the front axle is roughly 6 inches further to the left than my rear axle. Frame is bent that much. Springs twisted, shocks broken, engine mounts twisted, frame cracked, shackles bent, blah blah blah.

DANG IT!

The "funny" part is, while his bmw sat there "bleeding" all over the pavement, my little c223 was idling along just fine--never leaked anything, never hickuped, nada. I was able to drive under power the 200 feet or so to where there was actually some shoulder to park on so I'd be off the road. Didn't even steer differently. I'm even more impressed with that little motor.

Crossbones, it's gonna be a while before I can do the rest of that testing now <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> In fact, depending on the availablity of a cheap donor jeep (mainly need the frame) my jeep may be going to the great junkyard in the sky--also known as the "Final parting out."

Man, am I bummed.

My condolences on your loss.
Keep the drive train, esp that bullet proff motor. You will find another frame/body etc. There is ALWAYS one more available someplace.
Best news (apparently) no trips to the hospital/anybody hurt.
Hang in.

Wow! That's a cool swap, sorry to hear the news. I have fond memories of my 86 TD Trooper. Let us know how you resurrect it. You could call it: "The Phoenix Project"
Any pics??

lamby--

Sure sorry to hear of your accident. It's extra tough with all of your conversion work in it. I hope you can restore it somehow.

Regards--

Paul

Heh, I like it--the "phoenix project." That's what this is going to be. Have a lead on some new frames already--a lot easier to find Jeep frames than a donor p'up, that's for sure--thank goodness.

I tried to take some pictures so you guys could see just how amazing it is that I was able to drive this to safety, but all the pics of the broken shocks, bent springs, twisted frame, and cock-eyed motor mounts didn't come out. But, hopefully you can get an idea when you look at just how far over the front axle is when compared to the rear axle. Even the pictures don't make it look as bad as it really is. Impact was on the right front wheel, and pushed everything over by at least 5 inches.

Anyways, here are a couple of pics for your viewing pleasure...
