Getting the Wheeling Fever
|
Hello, I just pulled the codes off my 92 trooper 3.2 SOHC, and I got a code 14(Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit) and a code 24( Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) circuit). I already assumed I needed a new vehicle speed sensor, because my speedometer works intermittently. The reason I checked the codes is because my engine idles vey high when I first start it up, whether it is cold or hot. Then after about 5 minutes, the check engine light comes on, and the engine settles down to a normal idle. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what to check, or has had this problem. I recall on my '88 Troop the coolant temp sensor played a part in the idle speed if it got too hot or something. Any help would be appreciated.

The VSS on the 1st gens was in guage cluster and signaled by the speedometer cable, not sure if the 92 troop is like that also. If your cable is broken the VSS will not work. Disregard this if you have the electric VSS.
Maybe the CLT sensor is bad? You could at the very least check the connection for corrosion and its on tight.

I went out and looked for the coolant temp sensor, I have a spare one I could put in if I could find the thing. Anyone know where it is? Thanks CPOM, I have an electric vss, no cable.

Should be on the top of the engine somewhere in the intake manifold, check around the coolant exit port /thermostat housing.

THE COOLANT TEMP SENSOR IS ON THE WTR CROSSOVER PIPE BEHIND THE ENG ,THE EASIEST WAY TO ACCESS IT IS TO LOOSEN THE TRANS MOUNT BOLTS AND JACK UP THE BACK END OF THE TRANS ,THIS WILL TILT THE ENG UP AND FORWARD IN THE BACK AND MAKE IT MUCH EASIER TO REACH JERRY

One more question, is there anything else that could go bad with that circuit other than replacing the sensor itself? And do I have to remove the driveshaft or loosen any other engine mounts to get it to tilt forward by jacking up the tranny? Thanks again.

THE SENSOR HAS A BIG EFFECT ON COLD START AND WARM UP AND HOT IDEL ALLSO, NO JUST UNBLOT THE TWO LOWER TRANS BOLTS OR RATHER THE NUTS IN THE CROSSMEMBER AND RAISE THE TRANS ABOUT 2-2/1/2 IN JERRY
