The best way to check it is to pressure test the system. You'll probably be able to locate the leak this way. FWIW, there has NEVER been a recall for the head gasket. Toyota had a Special Service Campaign (SSP V06) for head gaskets. This was a special warranty; recalls are for safety issues.
