Getting the Wheeling Fever

Update and more questions. I had a machine shop flatten out my valve cover, since i haven't got a Clifford yet. Put it on, let it sit for 24hrs. Fired her up this morning and no leaks! Took it down the road 1 mile. Got back and there is oil blowing out of the dipstick tube. No leaks at valve cover though. My figuring is this is something I screwed up, since it didn't do that before the valve cover. What is it? I had all the rocker bridges off, and arms. They were put back in straight, and lined up. Valve sticking maybe? How do i gi about making sure they are moving correctly? Any thoughts please!

Jeepete - Could this be from the rocker arms not being lined up? All The bridges have been reinstalled.

Check your PCV and breather. The engine is building up pressure and it has no way to evacuate it.

Geez rjn... You describe piston ring blowby! Take the grommets out of the cover holes and see how much smoke comes out when hot and running. Pressure inside the engine is from the rings...not valves. Good you got it not to leak at the cover.. But now the problem seems to not have been the cover after all. I am not rereading posts to see but what do you know about this engine? If new it might just need running some to breakin the rings till they are seated good. If old and used...oh shucks! Or what about the pcv system? Is it clean and fully functional? Smoke from the dipstick hole is a hint of too much pressure inside the engine and the pcv system should gobble up that pressure. Big JIm

Jeepete - Could this be from the rocker arms not being lined up? All The bridges have been reinstalled. No. Usually if the dipstick blows out or oil blows out the stick hole it's because there is nowhere else for the pressure to go. All engines, new or old develop crankcase pressure. even a new engine will blow a dipstick out if there is no other vent (such as the pcv system.) Check the PCV valve if you have one. If you don't you need an opening of some kind on the valve cover. Very old engines had the vent built into the oil fill cap. I'm not sure when they stopped using those but they could clog up cause problems.
