You said the fuel was in the middle of the site glass while running, but you ALSO need to check it first thing in the AM to see if there's any fuel in view in the site glass at all BEFORE you fire 'er up.

If it's empty, the float/needle valve is shot. Your dipstick more than likely also smells like fuel. THIS is not good; will wash down your engine.
