Getting the Wheeling Fever
There was almost no gas in the sight glass at all after it sits. I guess this would make it really hard to start right? I will have to check my oil for gas. I didnt notice any before but I will check now that you mention it. If my float/needle valve is shot, would that make the truck bog/hesitite right off idle? Thanks guys Stinson

Body Damage is Cool
This is kind of a long shot, but try this.

Every night when you park, loosen your fuel cap, and again in the morning before you go to start it, and see if any excessive pressure comes out/sucks in. If you fuel pump is old and getting weak (any gas coming out the weep holes on the bottom of the pump?), a clogged evap system might create just enough of a pressure problem to explain the symptoms. Maybe?

If it's empty, the float/needle valve is shot

I'm not sure how a shot float or needle valve would cause the bowl to empty? The needle valve sits above the fuel level & the float just , well, *floats* & opens & closes the needle valve.

You are correct though, that fuel is likely ending up in the oil.

Well a guess if the needle valve is not sealing properly, then the gas would leak out of the bowl right? How would the gas make it into the oil? Through the intake manifold? Im going to have to take a look at the carb. Maybe its time for a rebuild. Cya Stinson

No, like I said, the needle valve is in the top cover of the carb, above the fuel level in the bowl, so even if it were wide open, nothing would leak.

If the fuel leaks down, & you don't see it on the *outside* of the carb or engine, then it's got to be going *inside* via the manifold. If enough fuel leaks down & gets to the open valves, then it sits on top of the piston until it can get past the rings & drains into the oil.

I had this problem on a 74 Toy PU & rebuilt the carb & the problem went away. I never figured out where the leak was, even though I tested it off the engine by filling the bowl & letting it sit. It just stayed full once it was off the engine....strange, but true......
