Is it possible when a carburator fails... leaking gas... for some to end up in the oil? Thanks

Yes it is possible, but another possibility is the mechanical fuel pump has failed allowing fuel to enter the crank case.

What John said... Look to the fuel pump first. The carb has so little gas in it that it is hard to conceive you would detect gasoline in the oil from one. WHY are you suspecious of gas in the oil? Big JIm
