Ok, i'm buying my new wheels in the next few weeks. I'm looking at 33 x 12.5 (ya, i'm original, but i dont have $$ for gears right now) and it's my DD... These are my choices... BFG M/T KM Goodyear MTR Pro comp mud terrain pro comp xterrain 2 ply Mickey thompson baja claw radial
I'm looking at something that will last me a few years of driving (before i want to move up to 40's :)) so say 40,000-50,000 miles they have to last... i'm also keeping my stock rims and tires for the winter if i have to (tho i hear MT/R's rock in the snow) They will be going on 15x8 mickey thomson classic locks.... I don;t do much offroading, but would rather have the M/T tire, and dont want to get stuck when i DO go offroading (i hate hte A/T's i have now offroad).
I've heard good things about MT/R's and M/T KM's, the others not as much, any of you guys have opinions? Price is not an issue, as they are all within +/- 50 for all 4 .

40-50k out of a set of any mud terrains i know of is definitly pushing it.
ive seen the most milage out of the bfg's though. but maybee 35k at best.
i'd look at 33x10.5's as well for a mostly street rig especially. they will go down the road better, and usually have a much better wear pattern (for a m/t tire).
oh, btw. baja claws are AWESOME. but... you might just maybee get 20k out of them.

I had BFG mud terrains on my last truck, although they were 31 x 10.50's. I ran them for about 35-40k and when I replaced them, they all still had some tread left (used 1 as a spare). Rode well on the street, worked well off-road; abused the hell out of them. Never once had a flat, not once. My $0.02 <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
I'm between toyotas right now... 3rd Gen 4-runner soon.

Ive got 35K on my BFG muds, and they have worn well and performed better than I could have asked for off road. I think I would have gotten even more milage out of them if I had not had alignment issues. They still have some tread left. 32x11.50. I will def me buying again. A buddy with MTR's wore faster than mine. Cya Stinson

I had bad luck with BFG MT's and wheeling in the rocks like the Con, 4-Dice, and The Hammers. In five years I went through twenty-two BFG's, luckily they were all covered with AmericaÆs Tire Road Hazard Warranty. The last time I went in they could not get any BFGÆs so I went with the MTRÆs. I ran the same trails for three years with the MTRÆs and never cut a sidewall. AmericaÆs Tire will not sell me the Road Hazard Warranty for the wheeler any longer. Oh well it was nice while it lasted.

Must be some sharp rocks out there in CA. Where I wheel in PA most of the rocks are round. Not any problems yet. Cya Stinson

I'm with OOPS, Get the "thickest" sidewall of all of them.
I HATE splitting sidewalls on the trail.
I once cut a sidewall, and while limping back to camp, split the sidewall in my damn spare <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />
Used my CO2 tank and kept re-filling every 500ft. Talk about close.
I don't worry anymore. Ive got beefy sidewalls (procomp X-terrains) buy 3 get on free special.

I think it depends a bit on the type of trail and rock you see, as well as if you want the tire to be effective in snow/ice. Many say that MT/Rs are much better in snow/ice, and they definitely have a better track record in very sharp rock. So far I've loved my MT/Rs because they have given me a lot of confidence on the trail, and are tolerable on the road as well. Can't yet vouch for total miles (I have about 7,000 on mine and they're wearing great so far), but at this point I would buy them again.

MTR'S are great tires for everything except mud. As far as milage,I have no idea, my rig is trail only. I did get 3.5 wheeling seasons before I put the IROKS on. Rule of thumb, the softer the rubber compound, the faster they wear on the street. Must be some sharp rocks out there in CA. Where I wheel in PA most of the rocks are round. We make the rocks on the California coast and by the time they get pushed to you guys, they are round.
