Someone in this forum knows a place (firm) where you can buy new or rebuilded diesel engines like 4M40, 4D56, 4M41.
Please let me know.

How far from home?

Here in South Africa we can get them. Very costly though.

You can import cut-outs from Japan (if you can get the permits, I understand).

I have been in contact with a company that is able to do it. They take trips over there, find what they want, drive it, take video, and then cut it crate it up, and ship it over, Then they offer shipping to your door.

The prices I was finding shipped were 4-6,500 US $ <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> Hardly worth it for something that will be hard to find parts for. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I think it would be cheaper, and easier just to import an '83 Pajero TD into the US (I think that's the latest year you can)

Someday when I don't have all my money invested in 1,000 projects, I'll play with diesel monties.

I hear that you can get mitsu disels in Mexico, but I couldn't tell you where exactly, that would be cheaper then floating one over from Japan. There is a guy in Canada who can get them in, but as for cost, I have no clue.

My Friends.

I life here down in Central America and I have a 1995 Mitsubishi Montero SR with a V6 6G74 engine that is beginning to burn oil yust at Idle speed, so I decided to buy a 4M40 engine. Here in a local autopart store you can buy a complete new 4D56 turbo diesel engine but produced by Hyundai motors for about US$3,800, but I thing this engine is to litle so would like to buy a 4M40 engine. Can you send me the name of the guy in mexico and maybe the E-mail to contact him. Regards.

Where in Central America do you live? I'm in Nicaragua, where you can get a 4D56 or 4M40 for about $3k, installed. These engines are not new, tough, but are complete with all you need.

What do you get for $3800? Usually, with these new engines you get all but the injection pump, glow plugs and wiring, alternator (not the same as petrol engine) and turbo.

If you decide to come here to look for an engine, you can can contact me if you need any help.

As for the 4D56 being too small... well, if you want a fast vehicle, then you'll be dissapointed. But don't think the 4M40 will make a huge difference either.

As for torque, the 4D56 TDI has about the same torque as the 6G72, but at 2000rpm. The 4M40 TDI generates about the same torque as the 6G74, also at around 2000rpm.

Diesel engines are not meant for speed (unless you have a newer CRD diesel)

Hello my friend. What a small world in that we live. Yeah I live in Nicaragua too. Do you know a place here where you can buy a good 4M40 engine not to much used maybe from a crashed 2004 Montero. Regarding the new 4d56 engine produced by Hyundai it all comes completly new, new Injection pump, alternator, turbo and starter and that includeds instalation and that for US$ 3,800.

I tell you here it's hard to find a crashed vehicle for a decent price, especially a Montero; maybe you can find one at the insurance auctions. The junkyards sell Montero stuff as if it was gold, and it's not very common to find Montys at junkyards.

About 6 months ago I saw a crashed pre 2003 DI-D Montero parked outside a house, engine looked intact, so I stopped to ask about it, but it was already sold...

I think the best alternative is to buy one of those japanese import engines.
