I bought an 87 Samurai that ran and shifted perfectly. I put the trans in 2nd, and the transfer case in N per the owners' manual, and towed it 20 miles home. When I tried to drive it, I moved the lever from N to 4wd, and it stuck somewhere in between and won't be budged. The lever will not shift at all. The front driveshaft is turning but I'n unable to move forward or back. What now? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

take out the t-case shifter and look at the forks and use the shifter to make them look like this[] then look at the shifter sheet it is probably worn out and needs to be replaced
if it don't fit, force it if it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway

That happened to me the other day with my 87 Samurai. In desperation I thought maybe I needed to lift the shifter like in some cars. Guess what. The shifter came out of the box and was in my hands in thin air. I removed the shifter cover, stuck the shifter back into the socket and it worked fine. Don't know what happened, but I hope it doesn't happen again. Didn't know it would come right out of the transfer box like that. Eugene "If it's broke, call a tow truck".

Did you push down and twist the locking cap? If not, it will come right back out...
