Its kind of on the way to berthoud pass. Take the berthod pass exit off of I-70 which is US40 and you will go through the town of Empire. This is where you turn to get to the trail.

In the pics of the lake Breckenridge peak is to the left and Witter peak is to the right. They make up part of the continental divide.
