Roll Me Over

Well, ***** got worse. My compression tester woas old and crappy so it didn't work well. Did a leak down test and everything seemed fine. Injectors were fine but still couldn't fix the problem.

I ended up pulling the head and checking things out. Seemed fine and I replaced the head gasket and distributor cap. Hooked everything back up and had the same problem. #2 was still not working after all that!

Talked it over with my dad and figured it had to be electrical, maybe a short on the injector. Checked everything out and it looked fine. I even replaced the orings since they were worn and cracked.

When I fired it up it is now only running on #5&6!!!
I'm so pissed right now. I pulled things apart and checked the injectors again and they seem fine. I even replaced the plugs again! Timing should be close. Anyone know what the timing should be? I think I've got it at 6 degrees BTDC now.

I'm getting so frustrated. I put away my tools and said I needed to take a break after 3 days with no results.

HELP ME! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />

Your problem could be that your wires are hooked to the cap wrong or if you removed the Distributer your timing could be way off..since you replaced the Dist. cap this could be the problem. The distributer cap on the 3.0 is a little tricky as the electrodes under the cap are not in line with the the wire connections on top of the cap, so if the roter is pointed at the #1 spark plug wire your not on time .I would double check that. Its hard to explain but if you look under the dizzy cap you'll see what I mean.

What ecactly do you mean the injectors seemed fine? Did you take them somewhere to test? I am also wondering if you reset the distributor correctly. Like Justice said if it was pointing to #1 on the outside of the cap, it is not pointing to #1 on the inside of the cap. If I was closer I would come over and help, Where are you?

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Well, I tested the ohm ratings on the injectors and swapped ones from working cylinders to the one that wasn't working. The same cylinder didn't work and all the others were fine with different injectors.

As far as the distibutor, I know the eloctrodes are wierd. It is installed correctly because the motor WAS running after I replaced the cap and all. It only got worse after I checked the injector wires for #2 weren't shorting. That's the only thing I did different. I'm a bit confused.

As far as the coolant, no it wasn't that color. It was rust colored. After looking in the radiator it looks like it had some rust built up inside.

I'm located in Portland, OR

This is so frustarting because last month the damn thing was running better that it ever had before!!!

Have you tried to switch plug wires with the #2 cyl with another one? Is the cap and rotor in good, non coroded condition? Check the plugs for the whole injector wire harness make sure they are not dirty or damaged. I think my next thing to do would be to swap a whole distributor with a known working. I would even try swaping ECUs with a working one. Take the top timing belt, cam sprocket covers off and make sure all 3 timing marks line up exactly. Pull the distributor and line up the marks and insert it correctly. Make sure the cap and plug wires are in good working condition. Make sure plugs are good. Make sure you are getting spark in #2, and gas.

Or a looong shot, I doubt it but, could something be blocking the intake hole for #2cyl. OR a broken lifter causing the valves to not open correctly. If all of the above paragraph is good, I dont see why it would be failing to run correctly.

That's what is so frustrating. I have done all of that accept putting in a whole new distributor. Cap and rotor are brands new. All cylinders are getting spark. It is definetly NOT a spark issue. Valves seem to be working fine, I inspected them when I pulled the head. Timing is right and everything lines up.

I don't understand how it went from #2 not working and 20 minutes later #1,2,3,&4 aren't working.

I was thinking of trying a new fuel rail but there seems to be plenty of fuel there when I pull the injectors. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Coil going out? Check to see if you have a strong white/blue spark, or a weak orange/yellow spark.
