Getting the Wheeling Fever
Thanks Jeff for posting pic.

Im in the improvement stage right now with it. I have changed the auto hubs to manual Skyjacker hubs, replaced motor mounts and trans/transfercase mounts, new gas tank, front drive shaft, rebuilt the carb, and tore the old flooring out. My wallet is getting lighter by the day, but I can't complain to much I got a heck of a deal for a pretty good running, 4x4 for only $800. Jayson

I also want to thank the owner of Independent4x.com, for giving the want to get into the Tropper life. I was looking for a 4wd, and in the search I came across his site, and really liked what I saw and seeing what these machines are capable of, I made the plunge. I hope to get there logo in real soon. Do yall think that there would be a problem in removing the smog pump, if this was an older model S-10, i wouldn't ask but being new to the Isuzu seen I think i need to ask. I was thinking of removing the whole thing not just removing the belt. Jayson

They're easy enough to take off, but you'd be disabling part of the emission control system for no real gains in power or efficiency. There's no reason to remove it, you have the potential of being illegal in smog check locales, and you're not doing the environment any favors. I'd recommend against it.

BTW, Matt of Independent4X is a member here, and I would agree does a great job of supporting our breed of beast. Glad you were able to enjoy his inspiration.

I was just wondering, I didn't know if it would rely help with gaining any more power by removing it. Thanks, Jayson

One guy you may try to get ahold of is Karl Mangum. I can't remember his name on this board, but he has an 87 like yours and has done quite a job of peppin' the old girl up....

Good luck and welcome to Isuzu-dom!!

Also, check out delta camshafts- they offer a regrind performance cam that many people have had luck with.

ALso, your model is carbuerated, and I think I read of a Weber conversion out there for the 2.3l.

K&N air cleaner, and a Calmini or Pacesetter header and you are about done.....

Well my main reason for doing away with the smog pump was that I could change the breather to the card, two lines come off the pump and and connect to the factory breather. i figured I could just do away with the pump upgrade to a better breather and just a smaller breather to hook to the pressure relief tube that also connects to the stock breather. But, I was told that if do use a smaller breather the pressure relief tube, then when im stopped then smoke when come out from under the hood cause, its not being sucked back into the engine through the card. Im still learning. Jayson

When I had my 2.3, I removed the smog pump and to honest didn't feel a whole lot of difference. I have also heard something to the effect that it can effect valves(exhaust?) and be detrimental to your engine. I ran mine like that until I swamped the whole darn rig.... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />

Good luck!

How long did you run it like that before you changed the engine. And did ever seem to making it run worse over time. Jayson
