Hi All,

I have a 2000 montero and it smokes more than it should. I want to replace to motor. Is it easier to replace with a crate motor or rebuild. I don't have the time to rebuild unless crate motors are not available. Thanks in advance, Ryan

I'd investigate things like the valve seals before deciding to rebuild. Check your oil pressure, and compression in all cylinders, then report back. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

And by all means, Save yourself and don't buy a Remanufactured engine, unless it has a 1 million mile warranty.

Good luck!

Thank you all for the helpful reply. I will check things out mechanically before opting for a rebuild or new motor. Might have furthur questions depending on what I find. Thank you again. Ryan
