Ok , I think everyone has heard of the superchips that you can get for the 2.8 that cost like 250 or somethinglike that.I was perusing Ebay and I came across these

Hot Hips 2.8 TBI

Of course the standard disclaimer that I have nothing to do with this item on here.Just asking some questions about it , and if it would work with the 3.4 or if it just works with a stock 2.8.Heres some copied stuff from the listing , no idea if its been programmed like the superchips or how it works exactly , but its waaaay cheaper than the 250 bucks.

Quote
This is a performance chip for the service number 1228062 ECU's used in S10 trucks, Blazers and Jimmy's and Isuzu Troopers manufactured between 1988 and 1992 with the 2.8L V6. I have this chip for either the 5spd or automatic transmission. Also, this chip will get the same to a slight improvement in gas mileage.

IF YOU HAVE A 1986 or 87 2.8L S10 you would have to change to the newer computer system to use chip.

Chip is good for 12hp and improved power above 3000 rpm.

Also, this is a performance chip. You must run either 91 octane with stock 195 thermostat or you can run 87 octane with a colder than stock thermostat like a 160-180 degree stat.

This is a replacement chip for the factory prom inside your computer. Not a resistor that alters the sensor reading to fool the computer into doing something its not suppose to do.

Chip is installed in factory holder and is just pull the old prom out and replace with this one. You can put the stock chip back in just as easily. This is much easier than trying to reuse the factory plastic holder from the stock chip.

So , if anyone has heard of these chips or knows anything about it let me know.If I could get an extra 12 HP or even half of that for 80 bucks , that doesn't soundlike too bad of a deal But if it only works on stock 2.8 and not modified 3.4 , then its not worth getting.

I have (well, had, since my Trooper is dead right now) one of these in mine. I have a stone stock 2.8 except for a 2 1/4 exhaust with a low restriction cat and muffler - oh, and a flipped lid on the air cleaner! .

I noticed a slight improvement in power, but nothing outstanding. At the time he was selling them for $30 and I thought it was an OK value for that. $80 is maybe a bit more questionable for how much value it would provide.

It should work with the 3.4 (they are the same computer), when you get down to the actual order, he asks for info on any engine mods as he can change some of the EPROM settings to optimize for those.

With the 3.4 swap and all your other goodies, once you get everything dialed in, I don't think you'd see that much of an additonal gain from it...

I just thought 80 sounded much better than the 250 they want for those superchips where you send in the chip and they program it.They sound liek they are basicaly the same thing , just the prom is reprogrammed a little for some extra tweak.I'll send him an email and see what he could do with a tweaked 3.4

Personally, I'd think you'd get a lot more Bang for the Buck$ by jacking your initial timing setting up to about 15 deg BTDC and spending ~~$80 on a set of 1.6:1 roller-tipped rocker arms.

Just my $.02.........ed

I have the 1.6:1 roller rockers allready.Plus I have under drive pulleys , the electronic ignition , 8MM wires , high output distributor cap and rotor , the headers , 14" K&N and electric fan.But theres always room for improvement I'd like this to be a little bit of a so when people see it they think its nothing special. Then I can floor it and leave them behind while I go

A guy can dream can't he?

I asked the same guy about my 3.4 and he said he would have to know what injectors I was running in the 4.3 TBI. He also said I would have to convert to a 3 wire O2 sensor. He had concerns that the 02 in the x-pipe on mine was too far back when it is actually closer forward than the Cat conv. was. He also said it would be $120.00 instead of $80.00.

Coneheads have been burning chips for the GM TBI's ever sence they first came out. There are several programes on line that let you change the fuel map to what ever you want. Come up with a good one and we will be beating a path to your door.
I wasted more then $100 on a JET chip for my first 2.8L Trooper Auto. Very little improvment if any. Would like to remap my Idle to 1200 rpm range as it is a little rich.
